Police and fire briefed the council on the Fourth of July operational picture and other recent public-safety items.
Dispatch statistics for the holiday weekend included 202 phone calls and 92 911 calls on July 4 (midnight–midnight), plus dozens of calls across July 3–5; staff also said there were roughly 39 case files opened related to fireworks enforcement during the holiday period. Officers worked multi-agency incidents including several missing-children reports that required extended searches and reunifications.
Chief Ham and Chief Daniels also briefed councilors on an unrelated but serious officer-involved incident earlier in the week; the major-crimes team and Oregon State Police are leading the investigation, and three involved officers are on administrative leave while the review proceeds. The chiefs praised dispatch and mutual-aid agency coordination during the busy weekend and thanked public-works and volunteer partners for support.
