Milwaukee Historical Society recounts summer programs, previews fall exhibitions

Diane Johnson, representing the Milwaukee Historical Society, told the commission the society ran several successful summer programs and is scheduling exhibitions into the fall. "It's been a couple months since May, and there has been a lot that's gone on since then," Johnson said, and she called out the June 13 'Revolutionary Road Trip,' a June 27 presentation by Mark Allison and an expanded July 4 program that included coordinated bell ringing with Saint Paul and multiple community groups.

Johnson said 13 volunteers helped with recent events and described an expanded set of public offerings: a contemporary art exhibition opening in October (artist reception Oct. 8), a holiday exhibit opening Nov. 22 and a holiday event on Dec. 6. She asked the commission to continue coordinating with community partners and flagraised logistical needs including storage and volunteer recruitment. "We're busy," she said of the calendar through the end of the year.

The update included operational notes: speakers discussed how artifacts and materials were stored and whether some items might be suitable for a construction or artifact-focused exhibit. The society singled out coordination with veterans' groups for ceremonial events and the practical challenge of staging events rain or shine. The commission thanked the society for its work and agreed to keep exhibition planning on future agendas.
