Board approves MHIT grant and a grant-funded mental-health liaison job

Superintendent Laura Gottson (as referenced in the presentation) submitted an MHIT grant application after a state-level outreach that enabled slightly higher funding than anticipated. Doctor Nicole Honeywell told the board the grant was approved at the state level and would support a classified mental-health liaison position to connect students and families to local providers and agencies.

Doctor Honeywell and staff noted the funding is reduced relative to prior funding levels and emphasized the position is grant-funded on a year-to-year basis. "This would be similar to the job coach position at Central that is grant funded," Doctor Honeywell said when describing the hiring conditions. The board approved the job description and acceptance of the grant unanimously.
