Board completes Main Street accreditation self-evaluation and discusses tax-capture messaging

Board members worked through the Main Street accreditation self-evaluation, scoring multiple sections and indicators. The facilitator walked the group through standards on partnerships, public presence, inclusive leadership and funding; members provided numeric scores (most commonly in the 3.0to4.5 range across indicators) and discussed where the program can improve.

The group discussed public confusion about tax-increment financing and asserted the need for clearer messaging that capture applies only to the DDA district. A board member asked how much the senior-citizen millage would generate inside the DDA and staff estimated capture of about $3,000 to $5,000 because the DDA captures only within its district. Members suggested preparing a succinct public explanation to address social-media misperceptions about tax capture.
