At Home in Darien reports summer outings, partnerships to reduce isolation

Chris Jones updated the Commission on At Home in Darien activities, saying the organization remained active through the summer even without board meetings in July and August. He reported 11 residents attended a recent fireworks outing, including three participants age 90 or older; one couple participated for the first time after the husband, who had experienced back problems, had not left his home for approximately six months. Jones said helping that couple attend "reflected the organization’s goal of reducing isolation and restoring community participation."

Jones recapped recent and upcoming events: a Darien Men’s Association–sponsored golf outing at Oak Hills, a planned performance of Matilda in New Canaan, a trip to Island Beach in Greenwich, an Out and About Eats lunch at Bareburger, a summer beach party at Weed Beach for about 60 participants, and a Nov. 7 pickleball event at Pickleball America. He also previewed a fall business event to build partnerships with local businesses and said At Home in Darien is developing a partnership with a local dentist to provide selected services to a limited number of seniors at no cost.
