Commission hears updates on COACT events and Senate Bill 339, the so-called "Golden Girls" proposal

Peter Eder updated the Commission on regional aging-network activity and state-level developments. He said four COACT events had attracted more than 150 participants and that the AgingCT website is expected to add a COACT page. Eder urged members to consider attending the Connecticut Age Well Collaborative event on Sept. 15 in Wethersfield and noted that tickets for the Connecticut Aging Summit (Oct. 6 at the Aqua Turf in Plantsville) are expected to go on sale in August.

Eder described Senate Bill 339 — sometimes called the "Golden Girls bill" — which would allow a homeowner to share a residence with up to three unrelated individuals as a proposal intended to expand housing options for older adults and people with disabilities. He said the bill passed the Senate but did not pass the House in its most recent session because of concerns about college communities; he expects the legislation may return for further consideration. Eder also reported that the Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging is surveying tax assessors across 14 member municipalities and that he asked Darien's assessor to complete the survey.
