Committee approves $2.156 million for public safety building security upgrades, adds 10% contingency

The Allegany County Ways & Means Committee approved a budget modification to appropriate $2,156,000 from unappropriated fund balance to fund security infrastructure modernization at the public safety building. County Administrator and Budget Officer Carissa Knapp, County Treasurer Jenna Kelley, and Sheriff Scott Cicirello presented the request, which names Black Creek Integrated Systems Corp. as the provider and allocates the funds to the capital project H3202 (Jail Security System Upgrade).

During discussion, Legislator Dwight “Mike” Healy asked about the life expectancy of the system; Administrator Knapp said that information would be specified in the purchase agreement. Legislator Janice Burdick noted the vendor suggested a 10 percent contingency. The committee rescinded a previous motion, amended the request to include the 10% contingency, and approved the amended appropriation. The committee instructed staff to prepare a resolution reflecting the amended total.
