Beaver Crossing qualifies for CDBG funding; board weighs projects and short deadline

Karsyn Bredenkamp of the Southeast Nebraska Development District (SENDD) told Beaver Crossing trustees the village now qualifies for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). Bredenkamp said the grant awards range from $250,000 to $450,000, require a 10% local commitment and that SENDD can prepare the application, which is due Sept. 13. "The process is about a 30-month time frame from start to finish," she said, and noted the village must identify a defined project and provide cost estimates and a public hearing as part of the application.

Board members discussed potential projects — a new community building or resurfacing town streets — but noted the short timeline and the need for project scoping and cost estimates. The board agreed it could postpone applying until next year or apply now and said SENDD had indicated the village could apply multiple times. The application would require the village to identify funding sources for the 10% local match.
