Commission considers Certified Local Government status to support historic preservation

Commissioners and staff discussed strengthening historic preservation tools and the possibility of pursuing Certified Local Government (CLG) status. Director Rosatello said adopting the state's CLG preservation framework could make private property owners eligible for state property‑tax reductions if they restore properties and choose to opt into the program.

Rosatello noted the city has not historically pursued CLG status and described how other nearby cities used certification to support preservation programs. Staff said they are preliminarily investigating an ordinance to adopt the state preservation boilerplate and will return with more detail if the council and commission support the effort.
