Town introduces Community Preservation Project Plan targeting 3,341 acres

Town staff presented the Community Preservation Project Plan as a roadmap for how CPF revenues could be used to preserve farmland, scenic lands, wetlands, stream corridors and public access. Tristan, who led the presentation, said the plan prioritizes farmland preservation: "The main objective and the highest priority for land preservation in this plan is the preservation of farmland."

The plan includes a chart of targeted parcels (tax ID, address, size, target category) and a map that shows conserved properties and proposed target parcels for connectivity and buffer purposes. Tristan emphasized the plan does not obligate property owners or restrict current rights: it creates options (transfer of development rights, conservation easements, fee-simple purchase) that the town could pursue when properties come up for sale or development.

The board introduced Introductory Local Law 6 to establish the project plan pursuant to Town Law §64‑l, declared lead agency for SEQRA review (unlisted action), and scheduled a public hearing for Aug. 26, 2026 at 6:45 p.m. at Town Hall. The plan will be available online for public review prior to the adoption vote.
