Sugarloaf Water District: board appropriates $14,000 to insert valve, avoiding widespread boil-water notice

Staff described two options: perform an insertion valve procedure ($14,000) that would minimize service interruptions and bacterial-sampling impacts, or do the work in-house and notify a large portion of the district of a 2‑day boil‑water notice. Giuseppe (board member) recommended paying for the insertion valve if funds are available: "If we have the money, let's do the insertion valve... not 50% of the district will be affected." The motion to appropriate $14,000 from the district fund balance carried on voice vote.

The controller advised the board to appropriate the money from fund balance at the same time it authorized the work. The board recorded the appropriation and directed staff to identify accounting entries for the expense in the Sugarloaf Water District fund.
