Chula delays water-tower work to review scope reductions and cost options

Council members reviewed a memo from Cary Sayre identifying potential reductions to the water-tower repair contract, including three optional deletions: an anti-climb ladder device ($3,000), a third-party inspection ($8,800) and site clean-up/smoothing and reseeding ($3,600). The memo estimated those changes would save $15,400.

City Clerk Ann Hamilton said she would handle purchase of the anti-climb device and follow up on removing the fire department from the scope. Council members also noted the tower easement and survey need attention; the tower parcel was reported as a 50-by-50 survey that did not include the meter bed and staff will coordinate with surveyor Tom Weitzel to reflag boundaries before the next meeting.

Council tabled additional water-tower action to the special meeting on Aug. 4 to allow staff to confirm figures and next steps. The minutes record the $15,400 savings figure from the memo, but the total price line in the record was unclear; staff agreed to verify final contract amounts and return with corrected figures at the August meeting.
