Hominy board approves hiring of superintendent but tables contract

At the HOMINY Public Schools regular meeting on Jan. 7, the board voted to approve the employment of Cory Campbell as superintendent for the 2026–2027 school year but tabled action on his contract.

Board President Jim Kunard reported that the board entered executive session at 6:18 p.m. to evaluate the superintendent's contract under Title 25, Section 307 B-1 of the Oklahoma Statutes and returned to open session at 6:57 p.m. The board said no other matters were discussed and that no votes were taken in executive session. Sara Hensley entered the executive session at 6:44 p.m. and left at 6:50 p.m.; Superintendent Cory Campbell entered at 6:51 p.m. and exited at 6:55 p.m.

After the executive session, a motion by Fonda Reed, seconded by Fi Davis, to approve the employment of Cory Campbell as superintendent passed by roll-call vote with ayes recorded for Fanci Tucker, Fi Davis, Fonda Reed, Darrell Brown and Jim Kunard. A later motion by Jim Kunard, seconded by Fi Davis, to table the superintendent's 2026–2027 contract also passed by the same roll-call ayes, meaning the board approved hiring but postponed finalizing contract terms.

The record does not include the contract terms under consideration nor a stated timeline for resuming contract negotiations. No votes were reported from the executive session itself. The board adjourned following completion of the agenda.
