Humboldt youth propose $7,000–$10,000 skate park at Cannon Park; council agrees to explore designs

Milton Ivy, accompanied by Trev Johnston, Elisha Ivy, Tripp Korte and Ryker Roach, asked the Humboldt City Council on Feb. 9 to consider building a community skate park at Cannon Park. Presenters estimated construction costs between $7,000 and $10,000 and described a potential 75-by-75-foot site adequate for a 50-by-50-foot skate area.

The request came during the public-comment portion of the regular council meeting. Councilmembers acknowledged a shortage of local skating facilities and expressed willingness to explore design options and a committee review to seek funding and oversee planning.

The presenters did not propose a funding plan at the meeting; councilmembers suggested staff and volunteers could refine a proposal and return with cost estimates and possible locations. No formal motion to fund construction was made during the meeting.
