Saint Paul Council proclaims July 28, 2026, Community Health Workers Day

The Saint Paul City Council unanimously adopted Resolution 26-1197 recognizing July 28, 2026, as Community Health Workers Day in the City of Saint Paul.

Council member Johnson introduced the measure and invited representatives from the Minnesota Community Health Worker Alliance to speak. Sunny Ailey, executive director of the alliance, told the council the alliance exists “to support and uplift the community health worker field” and described community health workers as a bridge to health care and social supports for residents who face barriers to access.

Bart Phillips, board chair of the alliance, said the group is forming a Community Health Innovation Platform to connect data sources and tools to empower community health workers. “We’re just getting started with our work for CHIP, the Community Health Innovation Platform,” he said.

Johnson said the council would join a statewide commemoration at the State Capitol and read the resolution’s resolved clause establishing 07/28/2026 as Community Health Workers Day in Saint Paul. The resolution passed on a voice vote with seven members in favor and none opposed.

The council encouraged residents to join the statewide observance and noted the mayor would join with a statewide proclamation at the Capitol. The resolution establishes recognition only and does not create new programs or city funding.
