Peck City Council accepts June treasurer’s report, sets budget hearing Aug. 3 and July work session

The Peck City Council on July 8 unanimously accepted the June Treasurer’s Report and set several calendar items ahead of the 2027 budget process. Tammy Hassell moved to accept the Treasurer’s report and Bennie Gockley seconded; Mayor Cheryl Carson and Council President Milt Nodacker joined Hassell and Gockley in an approval recorded as unanimous.

The council set the 2027 budget hearing for Aug. 3, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Peck Community Building and scheduled a July 27 work session for 10:00 a.m. to continue preparatory work. Approval of previous meeting minutes was tabled to the next month.

Clerk/Treasurer Robin Roughton noted a large expenditure to Qwest accounting of $10,700; the transcript records the amount but does not show a separate vote to pay that bill during the meeting.

During public comment, resident Todd Carson asked the council to pursue installing a four-way stop at Main Street and Howard Street because of speeding traffic. Mayor Carson said she would speak with Shawn of the Nez Perce Road Crew to check feasibility and that the city will again consider using the posted school speed sign to slow traffic.

Council President Milt Nodacker announced a community Ice Cream Social at the Peck Community Building on July 25 from 1 to 3 p.m., and resident Joe Gish said he will be at the Fire Department on Thursday. The council adjourned at 7:41 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 12, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
