The Methuen School Committee unanimously voted on July 22 to appoint Dr. Brian Marks as assistant superintendent of finance and operations. The superintendent said the district undertook a thorough search process with multiple screening and interview rounds before recommending Marks as the finalist.
Dr. Marks told the committee he views fiscal stewardship and district operations as foundational to student achievement and described plans to pursue new revenue channels, including creating an educational development foundation and seeking private and corporate partnerships. "I truly believe that district operations and sound fiscal stewardship are the foundation for student achievement," Marks said during his remarks.
Board members asked about priorities such as transportation and revenue generation; Marks described past experience overseeing complex school transportation systems and outlined early plans to explore seed funding and community partnerships. The committee moved and approved the appointment by roll call vote. Marks thanked the committee and said he looks forward to working with district staff.
