Board approves 4-foot wrought-iron fence for 136 Gorman with single driveway gate stipulation

The Compliance and Technical Advisory Board approved CTAP case 2020And28 to allow a 4-foot tall wrought-iron front-yard fence at 136 Gorman, subject to staff stipulations that the fence not exceed 4 feet in height and that only one driveway gate be installed on the property’s northeast side. Staff presented the recommendation and noted the applicant agreed to the single-driveway-gate condition.

“Staff recommends approval of the request based on findings A through D with the following stipulations that the fence does not exceed 4 feet in height at any portion of the final installation and that only 1 driveway gate be installed on the northeast side of the property,” a staff member said during the presentation. The board’s vote carried after a motion to accept staff’s recommendation.

Staff explained the northeast-side stipulation was intended to place the driveway gate where the setback is widest so the gate will not encroach on the front plane of the house. The board did not prescribe any additional changes to the fence design beyond the height and single-gate condition; the applicant had already submitted a site plan showing one rolling gate and acknowledged the stipulation.

Per the board’s standard procedure, certificates of appropriateness will be issued by the Office of Historic Preservation and emailed to the applicant within 10 days of approval. No additional conditions or enforcement actions were announced at the meeting.
