Clinton Town Council adopts draft vision and mission for public comment, sets five strategic priorities

At a July 20 workshop at Town Hall, Chairman Hank Teskey presented draft policy initiatives and the Clinton Town Council voted to adopt draft Vision and Mission statements and to share them with residents for public comment during July, the council said.

The move formalizes the council’s broad priorities and directs staff to solicit resident input on the council’s draft statements; the transcript does not record a vote tally or identify who moved or seconded the motion.

The council agreed on the following Vision Statement:

"Clinton will be a thriving shoreline community where people of all ages and incomes can live, work, and prosper, rooted in a strong local economy, environmental stewardship, and the civic character that makes Clinton home."

And it agreed on the following Mission Statement:

"The Town of Clinton is committed to delivering efficient and effective municipal services that protect public health and safety, preserve our community’s character and history, and provide responsible stewardship of our financial, physical, and environmental assets to its residents, businesses, and visitors."

Chairman Hank Teskey presented a list of draft initiatives that the council reviewed and prioritized. The council identified five strategic initiatives to guide future policy and goal setting: fiscal sustainability; economic development; quality of life; housing; and organizational and governance excellence. The council said it will use these priorities to establish goals for both the council and the Town Manager.

Town Manager Michelle Benivegna participated in the workshop, and the council distributed a draft Code of Conduct for members to review. The transcript notes that Council member Chris Passante arrived at 5:10 PM. The workshop began at 5:00 PM and adjourned at 6:25 PM. The transcript records that no public feedback had been received to date.
