Hartland reviews FY26 budget recap, staffing vacancies and culvert concerns

At the July 20 meeting Martin Dole reviewed FY26 revenues, operations of the Highway Department and the General Fund, and told the board that the auditor visited last week and is scheduled to return in August. For FY27 budgeting he said he will request department budgets by Sept. 8 to present to the Selectboard in early October.

Town Manager John Broker-Campbell updated the board that two positions are open: an Assistant Recreation Director and an Assessor. He noted that Bob Quaderer retired and that NEMRC staff (Doug and Cheyenne) are temporarily filling assessor duties until a permanent hire is made. Broker-Campbell also raised grant-funding concerns for the Jenneville Culvert and noted issues with a culvert on Hartland Hill Road. He said town addressing remains a concern and that the town may need a phased re‑addressing effort. Pathways is scheduled to present updated Quechee Road information on Aug. 3.

The board did not take final budget votes at the meeting; next steps include department submissions and the auditor's return in August.
