Brownwood schedules July 16 hearing on alleged nuisance at 1404 Second Street

The City of Brownwood Building and Standards Commission will hold a public hearing at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, in Council Chambers at 501 Center Avenue to determine whether the property at 1404 Second Street, Brownwood, constitutes a nuisance, the city posted.

The posted notice says the commission may "issue an administrative enforcement order that will order the abatement of any nuisance and/or condition that violates applicable City ordinances, including, without limitation, demolition of the structure located on the property, and the imposition of civil penalties." Jose Gonzalez, Code Compliance Official II with Planning & Development Services, certified that the notice was posted on June 25, 2026, and listed media outlets that were notified.

Courtney Lindsey, Administrative Assistant with Planning & Development Services, is shown as the administrative signatory on the notice. The certificate lists the Brownwood Bulletin, Brownwood News and radio stations KBWD, KOXE and KXYL as media recipients of the meeting notice.

The notice also provides an accessibility contact: persons with disabilities who need auxiliary aids or services are asked to contact Christi Wynn at (325) 646-5775 at least 48 hours before the meeting so arrangements can be made.

The hearing record will establish whether the property is a nuisance under applicable City of Brownwood ordinances; the notice does not record any prior findings or a scheduled enforcement action. If the Commission issues an enforcement order after the hearing, the order may include abatement measures, fines or demolition as specified in the posted notice.
