Hope's Helping Hands outlines Little Creek outreach, back‑to‑school events and clinic renovations

Hope's Helping Hands told the Laurel Town Council about recent and planned community programs aimed at children, families and mental‑health outreach in Little Creek.

Cheryl Barber introduced the item and Dr. Michelle Christopher Harris, founder and CEO of Hope's Helping Hands LLC, described the group's work. "My name is doctor Michelle Christopher Harris, and I am the founder and CEO of Hope's Helping Hands LLC," Harris said, and described weekly outreach at the Little Creek community where the nonprofit provides discussions, life‑skills activities, fellowship and refreshments for children and families.

Harris said the organization has operated since 2017 and now provides counseling and outreach in multiple states, and that local partnerships include events at the Laurel Public Library. She described plans for a back‑to‑school giveaway planned for July 25 (in partnership with other community organizations) and a community walkathon on Aug. 1 to promote health and connection. Harris also showed photos of a renovation project at a building on Delaware Avenue (referred to in the presentation as the 0 And T Delaware Avenue property) that the group is refurbishing to house counseling and clinic‑style services.

Council members and attendees thanked Harris and Barber for the presentation and for bringing community programming to Little Creek; the town manager later listed the same back‑to‑school and community events in the meeting's announcements. Harris noted the group has provided services in Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware and said the Little Creek outreach typically serves six to 10 children each week in the current programming.

Next steps: Hope's Helping Hands will proceed with planned events and the council's event calendar will include the back‑to‑school activities; the nonprofit and council members discussed continued partnership with the public library and other local organizations.
