Millville proposes $1.15 million bond to buy vactor truck and second street sweeper

The Millville City Commission introduced for first reading a bond ordinance to appropriate up to $1,150,000 in general-obligation bonds or notes to acquire a vactor (jet) truck and a second street sweeper. The ordinance was described by staff as a financing package that will roll soft costs into an iBank loan at a low interest rate.

Commissioners and staff stressed operational and regulatory reasons for the purchase. Mayor Dixon and others said both pieces of equipment are more than 20 years old and currently out of service, impairing stormwater maintenance duties required under the city's MS4 permit. "The street sweepers are very important to keep any type of debris and dirt going into the stormwater," Mayor Dixon said. Staff noted interest-only payments would not begin until after project completion.
