Planning board roundup: withdrawn application, new staff and public safety questions on Atlantic Boulevard

The Atlantic Beach Local Planning Board handled several routine items and public comments after deciding two variance cases.

Amanda Askew reported the applicant for North 25 Sullivan Bridal Circle (1225 Selva Marina Circle) withdrew after the item had been advertised, so the public hearing was opened and closed with no speakers. Amanda also introduced Tanya Robinson as a new staff member who assists with plan review and preliminary applicant communications; board members welcomed her.

Staff announced the August meeting will be held on Aug. 25 because the chamber is being used as a voting precinct on the board's usual date. During public comment, Sarah Boring asked whether the Hotel Palms would be required to landscape in front of the new wall; staff said the current landscape code was triggered because renovations exceeding 20% of value require landscape updates, but the applicant has not submitted any landscape revisions.

Neighbor Melinda LaRose raised concerns about 18-wheel delivery trucks on Atlantic Boulevard and risks to pedestrians and protected trees; staff suggested that tonnage limits and delivery regulations fall under the commission and police jurisdiction rather than the land-use board and encouraged residents to raise the matter with elected officials.

The board adjourned following a motion and voice vote.
