Council approves waterway markers, disaster interlocals and routine reappointments

Belleair Beach council approved a bundle of administrative and operational items on April 6, including a purchase order for waterway markers, interlocal disaster-preparedness agreements, and several reappointments.

The council authorized the city manager to execute a contract with American Underwater Contractors Inc. to install 16 waterway regulation markers on Gulf Boulevard for $23,408. Staff explained the markers are intended for manually propelled vessels and that installation follows the same methodology used in previous permanent installs.

Council also approved two interlocal agreements with Pinellas County: the annual debris-collection designation that identifies geographic responsibilities and the agreement for disaster debris monitoring and management services. Staff said these interlocal arrangements have facilitated prequalification of contractors and streamlined FEMA reimbursement in prior events.

The council approved routine reappointments: Parks & Recreation Board members (Michael Leakes, John Wagner), Planning & Zoning (Doug Prescott) and Citizen Advisory Committee members (Mark Goldman and others). The council also accepted the resignation of Council member Wellings, who listed his home for sale and indicated he will spend time out of state. Council will consider procedures to fill that vacancy and noted the role may require a full-term or partial-term replacement depending on timing.
