Ringgold County engineer outlines culvert work, bridge pour and J55 chip-seal schedule

County Engineer Jared Johnson told the Ringgold County Board of Supervisors on July 20 that crews have completed several culvert replacements and a washed-out backwall repair and are preparing multiple pavement and bridge projects.

Johnson described a string of completed work orders replacing deteriorated corrugated metal pipe culverts along J55 between 110th and TayGold Avenue (W.O. 1480, 1451, 1452, 1453 and 1454) and said crews repaired a washed-out backwall with riprap, fill and revetment under W.O. 1483. He reported brush-clearing along right-of-way under W.O. 1481 is in progress.

The engineer said a work-in-the-ROW permit from IDOT has been obtained for the J55 chip-seal (listed as chip seat in the record) from P14 to U.S. Highway 169; Elder Corporation is scheduled to perform base stabilization after culvert replacements, possibly as early as the week of July 20. Johnson said the department is awaiting a final mitigation-credit quote for the Union 13 project and has submitted check plans to IDOT, targeting an IDOT letting in November.

On the Middle Fork 10 bridge, Johnson reported crews finished formwork, reinforcement tying and related prep and that a deck pour was planned for Wednesday, July 22, with continuous hydration through Friday to protect the new concrete. Separately, Johnson said the concept statement for the Washington 24 bridge has been reviewed and cleared by IDOT; IDOT's Cultural Resources staff requested a cultural-resources evaluation by the University of Iowa, which the department expects to be completed next week.

The board did not debate these updates at length; the engineering report was delivered as the department's regular secondary-roads briefing.
