Rules Committee advances seven mayoral reappointments to multiple commissions

The San Francisco Rules Committee on July 20 recommended approval and forwarding of seven mayoral reappointments to the full Board of Supervisors.

Chair Shamon Walton moved the committee to amend the agenda items to "approve" the nominations and forward them with recommendations; each motion passed without objection. The slate included Joshua Arce (reappointment to the Public Utilities Commission, term ending 08/01/2030); Lydia So (Planning Commission, term ending 06/30/2030); Kimberly Hartwick Schulman (Sanitation and Streets Commission, seat 2, term ending 07/01/2030); Lindsay McCleese (Building Inspection Commission, term ending 07/01/2028); Eleanor Blum (Public Works Commission, term ending 07/02/2030; absent from the hearing); John Trezvina (Board of Appeals, term ending 07/01/2030); and Robin Abad Acobillo (Board of Appeals, term ending 07/01/2030).

Joshua Arce, speaking for his reappointment to the Public Utilities Commission, emphasized his role as the ratepayer advocate and outlined priorities including affordability, leveraging a $12,500,000,000 10-year capital plan for economic benefits, local business contracting under LBE and local-hire policies, and coordination with the city's climate objectives. "I am grateful to Mayor Lurie to be nominated for reappointment to an additional 4 year term at the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission," Arce said.

Lydia So described her professional background in planning, architecture and real estate and emphasized outreach to diverse communities, including a Cantonese-language Sunset Town Hall. Supporters in public comment said her technical background and cultural fluency were valuable to the planning process.

Other nominees spoke briefly about their experience and service; committee members thanked them and moved each item forward. Public comment on these items was limited or supportive in all cases. The clerk recorded the committee votes and each motion to approve and recommend was adopted without objection.

What happens next: Each reappointment will be placed on the full Board of Supervisors agenda (items were noted as expected to appear on the July 28 board agenda unless otherwise stated).
