Mayor honors New Albany High School Division 2 state champion baseball team

New Albany — Mayor Spalding and the city council presented a proclamation to the New Albany High School 2026 Division 2 state champion boys baseball team, listing players and coaches and recognizing their 27–7 season and tournament performance.

The proclamation noted the team played the season without a home field, finished with a 27–7 record and allowed just four runs in six tournament games. Coach Michael Sandman thanked council and the community for the recognition and praised the players’ mental toughness, describing “how much they just believed that they were gonna win.”

Council members took a group photo with the team and presented proclamations to coaches for distribution to players and families.

The recognition took place early in the July 21 meeting and did not require council action beyond the ceremonial proclamation.
