Culbertson canvass affirms Moen as mayor; voters approve higher general levy and airport tax

A canvass of the April 6, 1936 town election declared L. W. Moen elected mayor and E. E. Bonebright and A. W. Warden elected as aldermen for two-year terms, the council recorded on April 13.

The canvass, conducted by a council-appointed committee at a special session, also certified results on two ballot questions. The increase of the general municipal levy to 20 mills carried, 23 to 8, and a one-mill levy to fund a municipal airport carried, 19 to 12, the minutes show. The council formally declared both levies carried and certified the election results.

The town clerk had earlier published notice of the annual election and the proposed levy questions; the council recorded its appointments of election board members for the April vote. Hans Smith is recorded as town clerk in the minutes and attested the canvass.

The levies are to be collected during 1936 and paid into the town's general and airport funds as provided by the adopted resolutions. No formal roll-call vote counts for individual council members were recorded in the minutes for the canvass itself.
