Culbertson council adopts tax levies for 1927: 15 mills general levy, 24 mills special tax

The Culbertson Town Council’s minutes for Sept. 6, 1927 record adoption of two tax levy resolutions for the year 1927.

Resolution No. 40 fixes the annual municipal tax levy for general municipal and administrative purposes at 15 mills on each dollar of taxable property within the town’s corporate limits. The minutes state the amount collected will be paid into the town treasurer and apportioned to the General Fund.

Resolution No. 41 establishes a special tax of 24 mills on each dollar of taxable property and designates nineteen (19) mills to the Water Fund for indebtedness due during the ensuing year and five (5) mills to the sinking fund for redemption of Water Works Bonds. The minutes state that, because the town’s indebtedness exceeds one percent of assessed value, the special levy is necessary and shall be used only for the specified debt and sinking-fund purposes.
