The Parks & Library Committee decided Feb. 19 not to hold a full Party in the Park this summer but will host an information table at the city surplus sale in June to promote summer programs.
Kaitlyn, committee member, said the committee will bring flyers for the pollinator garden, summer reading program, seed library, library of things, passport program and the Book It 5K to the June table. The committee confirmed a Lit Night for March 5; Kaitlyn and Stacy, committee members, will prepare materials and visit the elementary school to distribute flyers and invite families.
Members also discussed reviving the Lego Derby in the fall. The event proved popular during last year’s Summer Reading Program, but Committee members raised concerns about cost. Administrator Parra recommended not giving away the derby cars as was done previously so the event remains financially sustainable for the city while staying free for participants. Committee members will pursue sponsorships and reach out to LEGO for potential donations; they also discussed offering the cars for purchase to participants who want to keep them.
The committee did not set specific dates for the Lego Derby or sponsorship commitments at this meeting and will return to those details after outreach.
