Acton Select Board awards mowing bid and approves propane and accounting contracts

At its July 8 meeting the Town of Acton Select Board opened and awarded a roadside mowing bid and approved two municipal contracts.

The Town Administrator reported one bid for roadside mowing from Adam Brock at $190 per mile (District 1 $4,693; District 2 $4,788). The Road Commissioner cautioned about budget impacts; the board said any award would require the bidder to meet bid conditions (appropriate warning lights, registration and required insurance). Select Board member David Winchell moved to award the bid conditioned on those requirements and Daniel Norwood seconded; the motion carried unanimously.

The board also approved a proposed contract for propane service (the previous contract at $1.99 per gallon had expired). Tom McGurty moved to approve the Superior contract proposal and Jon Denekamp seconded; the motion carried.

Finally, the Select Board renewed the town's contract with Blue Star Accounting for Marc Roy's services, approving a rate increase from $150 to $175 per hour. McGurty praised Mr. Roy's work in getting accounts in order and said outsourcing the position saved the Treasurer's line; the motion to approve the contract passed unanimously.

Board members said they will ensure contract terms and bidder conditions are met and that budget lines (Summer Maintenance and Treasurer) will cover the expenses.
