Pittsboro approves tax‑abatements for two Cam Drive properties, seeks corrective plans for others

The Pittsboro Town Council reviewed six tax‑abatement compliance packets and approved abatement schedules for two properties while directing corrective plans for the remainder.

Staff presented reports comparing the applicants’ original SB‑1 projections (employees and aggregate salaries) with actuals reported on the CF‑1 forms. For 201 West Cam Drive and 401 West Cam Drive staff concluded that actual employment and salary figures met the abatement scoring standards and recommended keeping their abatement schedules as submitted; council voted to approve those two abatement requests.

For the other properties — including the applicant at 101 West Cam Drive, 301 Ham Drive, 81 (formerly 203) West Cam Drive and 91 Ham Drive — staff found employee counts and wages substantially lower than projected. For those properties staff recommended seeking 30‑day corrective action plans and allowing up to one year for applicants to remedy shortfalls; if applicants fail to comply, staff recommended rescinding the abatement.

Council approved the two abatement requests (201 and 401) by voice vote and asked staff to work with applicants on corrective action plans where discrepancies exist. Staff and council discussed practical challenges gathering employee data while respecting privacy protections and agreed on acceptable forms of verification.
