Selectman apologizes after driving into closed trail area; club urges residents to check trail status

During new business a selectman apologized for driving into a closed log-yard/trail area and told the board he had offered to turn his vehicle around when confronted.

The selectman said he was not trying to hide his identity and apologized directly to those present: “I apologized, explained to him what will happen... I offered to turn turn around.” Club representatives responded that trails are closed for work and that, in such situations, their usual practice is to contact police if private property is accessed. They urged residents to contact the club or volunteers to confirm which trails are open before entering.

Club members explained the trail closure is due to heavy equipment and contractor activity; they said the club will communicate open/closed status to the public and encouraged text or direct contact to avoid future incidents. The board and club agreed maintaining open communication is important to prevent private-property incidents and to protect volunteers and contractors working on site.

No formal disciplinary action or vote was taken during the meeting; the selectman pledged it would not happen again and the club reiterated how residents should check trail status.
