Council rejects motion to have NW Kansas Planning pay Jansonius mowing fees after tie vote

During the Jan. 19 Phillipsburg City Council meeting, Randy Hrabe (former director of NW Kansas Planning) introduced the Jansonius addition and said the development will include five 1,500-square-foot houses to be built by Wes Bainter. Hrabe asked the council to waive mowing fees from the previous summer that related to city crews mowing tall grass at the addition.

Councilmember Brian Shrader moved that NW Kansas Planning pay the mowing fees; Terry McConnell seconded. The vote was recorded as yes from Shrader, McConnell and Lauren Weinert and no from Kenneth Craig, Don Roberts and Jerry Voorhees. Mayor Lance Munyon cast the tie-breaking vote opposed, and the motion failed. The minutes do not list a dollar amount for the mowing fees nor specify a follow-up action.

Because the motion failed, no party was assigned responsibility for the mowing fees at this meeting and council minutes record no further direction. The Jansonius addition description (five roughly 1,500-sq.-ft. houses) came from Hrabe's overview; the minutes do not record any subsequent resolution of the fee question.
