Public Works staff outline CIP progress, announce Tiribasi Basin expansion start

Public works staff delivered a mid‑year CIP update on July 20, listing completed steps and upcoming work across the city’s capital program.

Staff said the city recently advertised its last project for the year (7 Acre Scribe and 21st Avenue) and will open bids in coming weeks. Ongoing projects highlighted included the Washington/30th tunnel work (near completion of final touches), 22nd Avenue work with lane shifts and new pavement, and 35th Avenue paving and ramp work recently finished. The 73rd Street project has been advertised and is out to bid; 86th Street is in curb-and-gutter removal and milling preparation; 55th Avenue had crack filling and is scheduling paving; and the city’s sidewalk and curb-and-gutter program is wrapping up its north project with punch-list work underway.

Staff said the Tiribasi Basin expansion construction is expected to start in the first part of August. They also described barging work at Southport (a contractor staged large barges to move material) and said a bathymetric survey remains pending. Celebration Place power work is nearly complete and will put power pedestals in service; the 128th/52nd Street extension area near Uline and Amazon is advancing and will have a public information meeting in about three to four weeks.

Committee members asked for status and follow-up emails on resurfacing timing for 20th Avenue between 60th and 57th Streets and about responsibility for watering newly laid sod; staff said contractors are responsible during the warranty/proving period and that a DOT contract may impose different timing. The committee received the report by motion and voice vote.
