Bettendorf City Council unanimously approves 2026 intake and sidewalk repair programs, advances stop-sign ordinance

Bettendorf — The Bettendorf City Council on July 21 unanimously approved resolutions to move forward with the 2026 intake repair program and the 2026 sidewalk repair program, and completed a unanimous second reading of an ordinance to add a stop sign at Ontario Drive and Pandit Drive.

The council opened public hearings on both repair programs, confirmed that legal notice had been published and that no written correspondence had been received, and heard no members of the public at the podium. The clerk, Michelle, read the affidavit of publication for both items before the council voted.

For the intake repair program, the council moved and seconded a resolution “approving plans, specifications and form of contract” for the 2026 intake repair program. After Michelle called the roll, the Chair announced, “We have unanimously passed the 2026 intake repair program.” The roll call recorded the following members as voting yes: Balzinski; Nauman; Jaeger; Brown; Flaherty; Sechsar; Baden (all "Aye").

The sidewalk repair program followed the same process. The council moved and seconded a resolution to approve the plans, specifications and contract form for the 2026 sidewalk repair program. The Chair again announced the motion passed unanimously after the roll call.

Council member Baden presented the second reading of an ordinance amending Bettendorf City Code section 6-1-322(a)(2) to add a stop sign at the intersection of Ontario Drive and Pandit Drive. The ordinance passed its second reading unanimously. The Chair said there will be one more reading before the stop sign is added.

The council also approved the consent agenda in a single roll-call vote; the Chair noted items had been available for review the prior evening and no new questions were raised.

In closing remarks, Council member Lisa thanked staff for the strategic plan update and the work being done between formal council meetings. The meeting then was adjourned.

What’s next: The stop-sign ordinance will return for a final reading before installation of the sign; the intake and sidewalk repair contracts can move forward consistent with the approved plans, specifications and contract forms.
