Board backs $1 million grant application to improve Bertram Regional Park entrance

A presenter identified as Ross described Resolution 26-48, asking the board to support a $1,000,000 Legacy grant application through the Greater Minnesota Parks & Trails Commission for improvements at the south entrance of Bertram Regional Park.

Ross summarized the proposed work: upgrade an unimproved class-5 parking and boat-launch surface with durable surfacing, improve the access road to the boat landing, provide portable restroom accommodations at the landing, and install a rental kiosk to allow unattended kayak and canoe rentals. Ross also described mountain-bike-trailhead improvements including a shelter, updated kiosks and informational signage. "We really are trying to focus on some accessibility improvements," he told commissioners.

Commissioners discussed the county contribution; the Chair observed that if the county secured the grant, a local match of roughly $100,000 to $170,000 would be the anticipated county share. A motion to approve Resolution 26-48 was made and seconded; the Chair called for a roll call and the resolution passed unanimously.

The resolution authorizes staff to proceed with the grant application and to implement the described improvements if funding is awarded; staff indicated the improvements were identified in the park's master plan and are intended to increase accessibility and generate modest revenue through the rental kiosk.
