The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors voted to adopt Resolution 2026-48, granting J and M Displays Incorporated authorization to conduct fireworks displays in the county's unincorporated areas for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026, provided permit procedures and local fire-chief review are satisfied.
The resolution text read that J and M Displays has a history of using trained display operators and conducting fireworks in the county. The board approved the authorization on a motion and second after a brief procedural discussion about an incorrect calendar date in the resolution text.
A board member noted the resolution currently referred to June 31, a date that does not exist; the group agreed the county attorney would determine whether the error is de minimis and can be corrected administratively. The authorization requires a proper permit application at least 48 hours before a display and no objections from the applicable area fire chief or a county supervisor.
The authorization applies only to unincorporated areas and does not negate permit requirements or local fire-safety review.
