Public health reports donation for veteran mini-home and announces immunization clinics, community events

Christopher Pogan Miller, a public-health representative, told the board the department is running additional immunization clinics ahead of the school year, completed environmental health grant signings for the new fiscal year, and will provide first aid at upcoming community events including the county fair.

Miller also reported that Ringo Covert presented a $2,000 donation from the estate of Linda Long to a steering committee organizing a "mini home" project to help house a homeless veteran in Des Moines County. "We're moving forward with that project," Miller said, noting the donation is the first for the effort.

Separately, Brooke Marlin, a county veteran service officer, reminded supervisors that a veteran 'stand down' event will be held Friday at the auditorium from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering state and local resources and meals to veterans.

The board received these department updates as part of routine reports to keep county supervisors informed of public-health activities and community support for veteran services.
