Council approves sewer-pump insurance, buys new pump and schedules plant repairs

The council recorded several actions in 1959 to maintain and secure critical water and sewer infrastructure. On June 15 it voted to insure the sewer pump station for $5,000. On Nov. 2 the council voted to purchase a new pump from Fairbanks Morse for the river pumping station. The minutes also show repeated direction to inspect and repair the water plant and sewer lagoon: the street committee and plant supervisors were ordered to check alleys and street graveling and to arrange for lagoon seeding with crested wheat grass and rye.

Other maintenance items recorded across the year include approval of vacation pay for Chas/Carl Pennell (employee continuity), authorization to repair the pump-house ceiling and interior machinery, and a council recommendation that repairs be made at the water plant "as soon as possible." These entries show the council addressing both capital replacement (new pump, insurance) and ongoing plant upkeep.
