Residents urge restored public‑comment access, question superintendent payout and upcoming millage

Residents used the meeting's public‑comment period to press the board on transparency, meeting rules and township spending.

Tammy Keeler criticized plans for a new fire station and asked where funding would come from, warning that taxpayers cannot shoulder multiple large projects and referencing a prior large payout to a former superintendent. Lynette McCurley asked the board to provide more detailed minutes so citizens can track how often issues return to the board and said the board rarely responds during citizen comments.

Jason Tollers, identifying himself as a resident, argued the board's recent rule limiting first public comment to agenda items disproportionately harms people with disabilities and urged restoration of open public comment, saying the restriction has led to “needless bickering” and reduced civic engagement.

A speaker identified as Murphy said the township paid the superintendent $424,993.25 and noted a proposal to renew a law enforcement millage that would raise an estimated $813,904 in its first year; Murphy said they look forward to learning why an employee was terminated without cause.

The board did not provide new spending authorizations during public comment. Several comments urged the board to consider affordable‑housing strategies and to weigh long‑term fiscal impacts before committing to major capital projects.

The board proceeded to agenda items after public comment; members and staff later discussed project financing and bond plans during the Station 93 agenda item.
