Planning staff releases color-coded draft of subdivision regulations and opens 60 working-day comment period

Planning staff updated the planning board on a revised draft of Park County’s subdivision regulations. Mike Inman said the draft is color-coded to show which provisions are required by state statute and which are county-specific or best-practice language. The draft shortens and reorganizes the existing rules, removing chapters not relevant to Park County and consolidating repetitive process language.

Inman said a 60 working-day written public comment period will begin next week, after which the consultants will analyze submitted comments and provide the board with a summary. The planning board and county commissioners will hold legally noticed public hearings and the consultants’ analysis will inform the board’s recommendation to the commissioners. Inman said staff expects the process to extend into the fall and that supplementary materials, including a fire-protection appendix, will accompany the draft.

Inman and staff advised the board that the draft is consistent with state statute as presented, and that the consultants will help categorize comments and provide suggested edits. The timeline for hearings and any further meetings will be coordinated with the board as the comment period proceeds.
