Jessamine County deputy judge executive briefs Wilmore on 250th events, urges community participation

Justin Ray, who identified himself as deputy judge executive for Jessamine County, told the Wilmore City Council the county has organized a broad slate of events for its 250th anniversary and asked residents to help promote them. Ray said the county formed a planning committee in January and has since approved a logo, ordered commemorative shirts and staged Liberty Tree dedications at City County Park and High Ridge Park.

Ray highlighted recent community activities that he said drew strong turnout: a "paint the town" event that logged 269 participants and produced 48 painted banners; ceremonial events connected to the Vietnam Wall and Global War on Terror memorials; and a planned June 28 courthouse rededication at 4 p.m. He also described a July 2 bell-ringing recognizing 13 community members and the July 4 festival and parade schedule, and distributed rack cards and free items for volunteers.

Mayor (presiding official) and other council members thanked organizers and volunteers for turnout at salute-to-service and veterans events and noted donations and in-kind support from the county and community groups. The mayor said donors and a veterans trust fund contributed significant support toward the commemorative events.

Ray said the county's website and the printed rack cards he left at the meeting contain the most up-to-date schedules and logistical details and encouraged attendees to contact the courthouse if they needed shirts or further information. The council did not take specific action on the presentation; the briefing served to inform the public and the council about the planned schedule and volunteer needs.
