Republic Services reports landfill gas recovery powering the equivalent of nearly 1,400 homes; plans to add operator

Vice Chair Larry Hicks opened the Hardin County Public Works Committee meeting and introduced a presentation from Trevor Wyatt, Republic Services Operations Manager, on the landfill's operations and safety record.

Wyatt said Republic is operating the East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC) gas system with "three engines non-stop producing a maximum capacity to generate nearly 1,400 homes." He told the committee the company is planning to hire an additional operator to support ongoing operations.

The presentation highlighted the landfill's clean safety record and noted future investment plans tied to the gas-to-energy system. No formal action or vote was taken; the presentation served as an informational update to the committee.

The committee moved on to other agenda items and adjourned at 4:21 PM.
