Culbertson acts on landfill operations and waste contracts after monitoring updates

The Culbertson Town Council reviewed multiple landfill operational items through the year, including monitoring-well readings, staffing and the scheduling of a new pit.

Landfill operator Lynn J. Labatte reported routine monitoring-well results (two wells with standing water at low depth and one dry at the time of inspection), and the council discussed timelines to dig a new pit to replace the existing site. The minutes record that town staff planned to notify the county sanitarian, the local hospital and the volunteer fire department prior to controlled burning of a landfill pit.

Following a public bid process the council awarded a three-year landfill-maintenance contract to local bidder Lynn Labatte. The council also accepted a separate three-year garbage-hauling bid from the same bidder. The contracts were approved in a public session with votes recorded in the official minutes.

Other operational approvals included changes to landfill hours throughout the year (examples recorded in the minutes include 1:00–3:00 p.m. in winter months and extensions to 1:00–6:00 p.m. or 1:00–8:00 p.m. in summer months) and the instruction that the clerk coordinate necessary permits and notifications for larger operations.

The council directed staff to prepare procurement and contract documentation and to post notices of any fee changes adopted by ordinance.
