Select Board recognizes two unanticipated revenues and approves stop sign at Laurel Lane

The New Boston Select Board on July 20 recognized two unanticipated revenue receipts and authorized the installation of a new stop sign at the intersection of Laurel Lane and McCurdy Road.

During the public hearing, the highway representative said the town received $18,801 from New Boston Central School as its one‑third share of the replacement cost for a 2026 GMC Sierra 2500 that the school and town will share. The board then voted to recognize that amount as unanticipated revenue in accordance with RSA 31:95‑b (shared‑use receipts), approving the motion by voice vote.

The board also heard that the transfer station sold an older backhoe to Kaye Trucking in May 2026 for $24,200 and moved to recognize those proceeds as unanticipated revenue; that motion passed by voice vote as well.

On traffic signage, the chair opened a statutory public hearing required under New Hampshire law before installing or changing traffic control devices. The highway‑safety committee recommended adding a stop sign to control traffic exiting Laurel Lane onto McCurdy Road; the proposed sign would stop only traffic leaving Laurel Lane, not traffic on McCurdy. Following discussion and public comment noting a separate Christie/Ruby intersection change had been voted in 2025 but not yet implemented, the board authorized the highway department to install the Laurel Lane stop sign. The Christie/Ruby yield‑to‑stop change will be implemented by highway staff based on the earlier 2025 vote.

The chair made the motions to accept the two receipts and to authorize the stop sign; each motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. No roll‑call tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript.
