Scott County approves rezoning of 37.07 acres in Buffalo Township over supervisor’s objection

The Scott County Board of Supervisors on July 16 approved an ordinance rezoning approximately 37.07 acres in Section 2 of Buffalo Township from “A-G” Agricultural-General to “C-2” Commercial and Light Industrial.

Supervisor Paustian described the change as part of a long-range plan and noted existing commercial uses across the road. The ordinance passed on second and final reading with four supervisors voting in favor and Supervisor Bribriesco voting against. Bribriesco said she was concerned about “urban sprawl, urban creep,” and rezoning land with a CSR (Corn Suitability Rating) above 65.

The ordinance, written to amend Chapter 6 and Section 6-31 of the Scott County Code, directs the County Auditor to record the rezoning in the County Recorder’s Office and includes standard severability and repealer clauses. It takes effect after final passage and publication as required by law.

The board’s roll call recorded four ayes and one nay. No amendments to the ordinance were reported at the meeting. The county did not provide additional findings on traffic, environmental review, or mitigation measures in the minutes; those details were not specified.
