Township committee appoints Douglas Herring to fill vacancy through November 2026

Mayor pro tem called for nominations to fill the township committee vacancy created by the immediate resignation of Deputy Mayor Vince Barragan. A committee member nominated Douglas Herring; another member seconded the nomination and the committee approved the appointment by roll call.

Douglas Herring took the oath of office and told the committee and audience he came to serve the community. "When I got asked, I wanted to help build a community," Herring said in brief remarks after being sworn in, describing Montgomery as "not just a bunch of houses. It's a community." He thanked those who helped him and said he would focus on listening, learning and helping residents before leading.

The clerk recapped the vacancy process required by New Jersey municipal-vacancy law and said the Montgomery Democratic Organization had presented three nominees: Douglas Herring, Brian Siggy and Amanda Balmonk. With the committee's selection, Herring will serve until the November 2026 general election.

The committee did not take other formal action on related matters at the time. The committee moved on to the consent agenda after the oath and photo opportunity at the dais.
