Montgomery Business Association donates 50 teddy bears to police; seeks ongoing collaboration with township

Corey Wingarder, speaking for the Montgomery Business Association, introduced board members and described the association's growth from about 85 to more than 125 members. The group asked for periodic appearances before the township committee to keep the committee informed of business initiatives and partnership opportunities.

"Our mission is to strengthen Montgomery's business community," Wingarder said, noting efforts to encourage residents to shop locally and to support workforce-development connections with local schools. Roberto Rivera and others outlined partnerships with Montgomery High School and local nonprofits.

Tracy Sonner presented 50 teddy bears that will be kept in police patrol vehicles and distributed to children involved in accidents or other stressful incidents. "Sometimes something as simple as a teddy bear can help comfort a frightened child," Sonner said. The chief and lieutenant-level officers present were named as recipients and a photo with the committee and officers followed the presentation.

Committee members thanked the association and encouraged continued collaboration on events and projects that support local businesses and residents.
